Volunteers form human chain to move 7,400 books

Description

A community book brigade formed in Ottawa's Hintonburg neighbourhood as 280 volunteers mobilized to help The Spaniel's Tale Bookstore move to a larger location. The independent shop organized a moving chain down Wellington Street West, passing 7,400 books hand to hand along the sidewalk to its new storefront 75 metres away. Volunteers successfully relocated more than 60 per cent of the shop's existing inventory in 150 minutes while keeping every title in alphabetical order. The bookstore, which originally launched in 2022, will officially reopen its expanded space at 1109 Wellington Street West this Saturday.
