Tonight: Midterms reach boiling point with 12 days to go. Punches were thrown at a Trump rally overnight and there’s new outrage over an incendiary ad in Ohio. Plus, dramatic rescues in Southern California as first responders pull multiple people from the waters of the raging Los Angeles River. And a likely tornado touching down in Arizona, northeast of Phoenix. NBC News’ Liz Kreutz reports. And a person familiar with the matter tells NBC News the Department of Justice is investigating allegations against Corey Lewandowski, a former Trump campaign manager. Also, outside of Reno, a small plane fell from the sky and crashed onto an interstate during morning rush hour. Remarkably, no one was injured. The cause of the crash is now under investigation. Plus, California Highway Patrol reports on two accidents involving Tesla vehicles in self-driving mode. CHP says a pedestrian entered a freeway overnight stepping directly into the vehicle’s path in a fatal collision. Also, the New York City Council passed a bill today that will ban horse-drawn carriage rides by 2028. The rides have been romanticized on television and in movies. The move comes after a teenager was killed this summer when he was thrown from a carriage. And in "Good News Tonight" a second grader reunited with her mom, who serves in the military. She was given a box at school with a golden lamp, a nod to the movie ‘Aladdin,’ which she loves to watch with her mom.  The seven-year-old held the lamp and wished for her mom to return.
