Description
Final Fantasy Resonance reviewed by Michael Higham on Nintendo Switch 2. "Part of playing through Final Fantasy Resonance is to examine why an older era of RPG was wedged into our psyche for so long. The rose-tinted glasses can be strong at times, but so too was the sharpness of their messages, and the ones we remember most fondly understood that simple did not mean shallow. And that's the biggest thing Resonance couldn't really nail down. Even with weaker dialogue that fills large stretches of its story, the journey is still worth embarking on. Resonance is special for how it wields HD-2D as an art style to set a new, higher standard that goes well beyond nostalgia. It's the flair that makes a solid turn-based combat system more satisfying when beating down a staggered boss. And it's what paints its world as an exciting place to explore, especially when a superb soundtrack backs up each moment before hitting you with a nasty battle theme. Although I'm left underwhelmed by pieces of the storytelling itself, I'm glad Final Fantasy Resonance exists to revive Brave Exvius but also show that old-school style RPGs can keep raising the bar in more ways than one." #IGN #Gaming
