Description
The French government says more than a thousand people were arrested during anti-government clashes on Saturday. Over half a million people are estimated to have taken to the streets. The demonstrations spread through cities across the country from Paris to Marseille and quickly turned violent, with looting and buildings set on fire. In Limoges, central France, the City Hall was set on fire, gutting the 19th-century building and collapsing the roof. Police were on the streets in large numbers throughout the country and deployed tear gas and water cannons against protesters.
