Description

There are "many myths" Americans adopted over time about immigration, says author and sociologist Nancy Foner. Foner discussed some of those common myths with PBS News' Judy Woodruff. "There are these many myths that are important because they set up these immigrant heroes and heroines who were somehow superior, did things the right way, moved ahead, became American right away," she said. "And against that, it's very hard to compete because that didn't happen." Foner, author of "Immigration: How the Past Shapes the Present," joined Woodruff for her series, Crossroads: America at 250.
