Dame Judi Dench joins call to keep Archers in Birmingham - BBC

23 hours agoRachael LewisWest Midlands Press AssociationDame Judi Dench is among more than 100 current and former cast and crew members calling on the BBC to keep The Archers in BirminghamMore than 100 current and former cast and crew members of The Archers, including Dame Judi Dench, have called on the BBC to keep the programme in Birmingham. Supporters say recording the drama elsewhere could affect its quality and future. The BBC says the move is part of wider cost-saving measures and alternative options are being explored. In a letter to director general Matt Brittin, actors, writers, directors and sound engineers argued that moving recordings away from the Midlands would have a "tangible impact" on the programme. The letter compares the prospect to "Coronation Street leaving the north-west, or EastEnders leaving the south-east", adding that it risks "ripping out the heart of Ambridge". Supporters say recording The Archers outside the Midlands could affect the programme's futureSignatories said Birmingham had been central to the show's identity since it began and warned that separating cast and production teams could affect the way the programme is made.

Hello, Molly? The $15 Million Bird Kelly Clarkson Coveted Finally Breaks Her Silence (Exclusive) - The Hollywood Reporter

I don’t watch television. I mostly read, go to shows, see some clown. So I had only a vague idea of who Kelly Clarkson was. I knew she was on some talent show with Justin Guarini, whom I know from theater work. On Oct. 10, Ms. Clarkson entered Art of Play, the Brooklyn curiosity shop where I live. She spent less than five minutes here and caused quite a hullabaloo. She asked a sales associate if she could purchase me, Molly, the mascot of the store and was duly informed that while that was impossible, she could contact artist Bliss Kolb to ask for a $15,000 duplicate. Bliss, of course, makes crank-driven mechanical contraptions that imitate living creatures, much like daytime talk show hosts.

Thank Gen Z for the ‘Girls’ Revival - WIRED

It’s official: Lena Dunham’s millennial magnum opus Girls is coming back, and it’s in large part thanks to Gen Z giving the show its long overdue redemption arc. Using their native tongue: the internet, Gen Z proselytized the show through memes, clips, and podcasts, and now, as if by collective manifestation, it’s being rebooted for five episodes, which HBO announced Wednesday. When Girls first aired in 2012, it was cataclysmic. Rave reviews were usurped by the relentless onslaught of sexism and misogyny, which commented on Dunham’s body, the kind of sex depicted onscreen, and the nepo baby allegations against the show’s stars—as well as the series’ lack of diversity. There was endless backlash and backlash to the backlash; it became everyone’s favorite show to both fairly criticize and willfully misunderstand, and creator Dunham was the one stuck grasping onto the lightning rod of so much ire, as she began to stand for everything wrong with millennial white women. But then something happened. A decade after it aired, everyone started rewatching Girls.
