Parametric Catastrophe Bonds for Sovereign Disaster Risk | World Bank Group Treasury - World Bank Group
As natural disasters grow increasingly extreme, developing countries must establish advanced risk-transfer strategies to safeguard their physical and fiscal infrastructure. The World Bank Group Treasury leverages its deep institutional expertise and Triple-A credit ratings to issue innovative catastrophe bonds (cat bonds) on behalf of member states. These capital market instruments transfer severe climate and geological exposure to specialized bond investors. Because they utilize parametric triggers tied to physical parameters rather than lengthy damage assessments, these transactions ensure rapid liquidity without increasing a nation's sovereign debt burden. {"facets":[],"orderby":"contentDate desc","select":"*","searchFields":"*","search":"*","filter":"contentType eq 'Video'","top":20,"skip":0}

Sovereign Catastrophe Bonds & Disaster Risk Insurance | World Bank Treasury - World Bank Group
To protect developing nations from the severe fiscal burdens caused by natural disasters, the World Bank Group deploys its Disaster Risk Insurance Platform to implement advanced risk-transfer mechanisms. By structuring catastrophe bonds (cat bonds) and regional sovereign insurance programs, the platform acts as a critical complement to national contingency funds. Backed by a Triple-A credit rating, this institutional framework enables public entities to transfer climate and catastrophe exposure directly to international capital markets. This approach guarantees rapid liquidity for emergency relief and infrastructure recovery without expanding a nation's sovereign debt. {"facets":[],"orderby":"contentDate desc","select":"*","searchFields":"*","search":"*","filter":"contentType eq 'Video'","top":20,"skip":0}

Sovereign Green Bonds & Market Advisory | World Bank Group Treasury - World Bank Group
To help developing countries secure a fraction of the $23 trillion in climate investments required by 2030, the World Bank Group Treasury delivers targeted technical advisory services to scale up local green bond markets. Despite rapid global expansion, developing nations frequently encounter deep structural constraints, including regulatory gaps, a lack of bankable green projects, and underdeveloped capital market ecosystems. By sharing its institutional expertise as the creator of the first labeled green bond in 2008, the World Bank Group helps sovereign clients establish robust national green bond frameworks, implement tracking and impact reporting, and diversify their investor base to fund transition infrastructures like renewable energy, sustainable water management, and electric rail transit.

Israeli settlers attack European diplomats during West Bank olive harvest - Al Jazeera
Israeli settlers have attacked European diplomats, including a French mayor, near the Palestinian village of Taybeh in the occupied West Bank. The delegation was visiting Palestinian olive harvesters on Saturday when the Israeli attackers confronted the group. The attack comes a day after settlers assaulted a US journalist north of Ramallah. In Saturday’s incident, the settlers targeted Belgium’s consul general, French and Polish diplomats and Catholic representatives, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot said. “A French mayor was assaulted and a Belgian vehicle damaged,” Prevot said, linking the attack to what he called Israel’s “illegal settlement policy” and pledging to push for further European Union sanctions. French mayor Bernard Baudoux, who was assaulted, told the AFP news agency that the violence suggests that “there is a tolerance on the part of the Israeli government” towards settler violence. Al Jazeera’s Nour Odeh, reporting from Ramallah, said the settlers surrounded the diplomats’ vehicles, pelted them with stones and smashed their windows.
