Houthis, Saudis exchange strikes on airports as Mideast conflict intensifies - The Christian Science Monitor

The escalation in fighting between Saudi Arabia and Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen continued Sunday as the rebels said the airport under their control in Sanaa had been struck again. They blamed the Saudis but provided no details. The accusation, aired by a Houthi-held broadcaster, came a day after the Saudi-led coalition fighting the rebels accused them of another deadly missile attack on the Riyadh international airport that killed 12 people and injured over 300, some of them critically. Saudi Arabia on Sunday kept the Riyadh airport closed and moved schools in the capital online as the Houthis threatened new strikes across the kingdom. Saturday’s strike on King Khalid International Airport – the third deadly one in a week there – heightened the war between the Houthis and the kingdom and further complicated efforts to halt the U. S.-Iran war. U. S. President Donald Trump on Saturday said he was considering whether to join Saudi strikes against the rebels, a scenario that could prompt the Houthis to halt shipping through a crucial waterway and further restrict the flow of oil out of the Persian Gulf.
