Fuel costs squeezing margins for some businesses - Yahoo News Canada
Some businesses in Jersey have expressed concern about the impact of rising global fuel prices. Locally, and in the UK, diesel prices recently topped £2 a litre, and global leaders have since made efforts to ease the strain on supply. The Government of Jersey has proposed to freeze fuel duty in 2027 in a bid to "help ease cost-of-living pressures". A&A Scaffolding Solutions said it welcomed that move, but said it would provide "limited relief if global prices continue to rise". Fuel duty was frozen in Jersey from 2023-2025, before rising in line with inflation in 2026. In the proposed budget for 2027, the government has suggested freezing it once again. It said "maintaining fuel duty at its current rate will help avoid additional costs for households and businesses that rely on transport, providing continued support at a time when many islanders remain under financial pressure". However, some businesses on the island worry that it will not be enough to offset global prices. Kelly Keating, from A&A Scaffolding Solutions, said "rising diesel prices are a real concern for us, particularly when they come on top of so many other costs that seem to be increasing across Jersey".

Apple is adding new privacy safeguards for Mac users as AI agents get more powerful - Business Insider
Apple plans new user controls for apps seeking Full Disk Access on Macs, citing increasingly capable AI agents. Apple wants to make sure you know exactly what you're signing up for before giving an AI agent access to your Mac. The company said in a developer blog post on Friday that it plans to introduce additional privacy controls for macOS's "Full Disk Access" setting, which gives apps permission to read sensitive information, including emails, private messages, browsing history, and other personal files. "Some developers are using Full Disk Access in ways that could put users at risk, exposing everything on their systems — including files, mail, messages, and even browsing history — without users' full knowledge and understanding," Apple said. "Going forward, we will introduce additional controls to ensure that users who genuinely wish to grant an app this extraordinary level of access can only do so with very explicit user action," Apple added. "As AI agents become increasingly capable and autonomous, the risks associated with this level of access will grow substantially.
