An investor group led by The Picklr investor and franchisee Tom Neale has committed $4.8M in financing and would sponsor The Picklr’s reorganization. The Picklr was founded in 2021 and began franchising locations two years later. The company’s footprint has scaled quickly in the years since, now boasting more than 70 domestic locations as well as facilities in Australia, Canada and Japan. However, Jorge Barragan, The Picklr’s founder and CEO, explained to Sports Business Journal that his company had agreed to be a guarantor for facility lease payments for some early franchisees. Barragan said that around 40 locations have such an agreement in place, and that those deals have become an untenable financial burden for the parent company. The Picklr hopes to use the bankruptcy process to renegotiate lease agreements. “We signed, unfortunately, too many corporate guarantees that landed on the holding company. And that’s on us. I own it,” Barragan said.
