Oct 04, 2026 at 07:35 PMAfter getting their first home victory in 2026, the Ravens would be even happier if they were healthier. The 24-18 decision over the Tennessee Titans didn't come without heavy collateral damage. Lamar Jackson (ankle), cornerback Marlon Humphrey (calf), guard Andrew Vorhees (foot), and tight end Durham Smythe (Achilles) left and didn't return. That wasn't part of the game plan. After jumping to a 24-7 lead, the Ravens (3-1) were shut out in the second half as Jackson watched from the sidelines after playing superbly during the first 30 minutes. The Titans (0-4) rallied late, and it wasn't until Malaki Starks recovered an onside kick with one minute, 12 seconds left that the Ravens could truly exhale. Head Coach Jesse Minter said the team's mentality would be to keep finding ways to come out on top, no matter who goes down. Baltimore already entered this game without outside linebacker Trey Hendrickson (finger), their most accomplished pass rusher, three centers, and more. "It's the National Football League, and it's all kind of injuries on every team," Minter said. "Nobody's going to feel sorry for us. We're not going to feel sorry for ourselves.

Scientists identify novel autoimmune driver behind DNA repair breakdown in childhood cancer - News-Medical
Researchers have found the first evidence for a previously unsuspected cause of pediatric cancer. They showed that children with such cancers were more likely than their healthy peers to produce ‘auto-antibodies’ targeting six proteins necessary for normal DNA repair. Likewise, they showed that young adults with cancer had greater amounts of these circulating antibodies already years before diagnosis. Tests confirmed that such antibodies can enter the cell during division, where they seem to locate to the TIGER domain implicated in translation and bind their antigens there. The latter result immediately suggests a likely mechanism for the etiology of cancer through the immobilization of DNA repair proteins. A team of scientists in Norway has found evidence for a new, previously unknown mechanism for the development of cancer in children: they seem to produce an unusual amount of aberrant antibodies against the building blocks that make up the DNA repair machinery, a diverse set of hundreds of proteins which identify and correct damage or errors in the genome.

Rare white matter disorders share a breakdown in protein production - McGill University
A Nature Reviews Neurology review from Dr. Geneviève Bernard’s lab points to one molecular process that keeps appearing in leukodystrophies. When Alexandra Chapleau walked into Dr. Geneviève Bernard’s lab in 2018 as a summer undergraduate student, unsure whether research was for her, she was inspired by her brother, who has leukodystrophy. It was what initially drew her to Dr. Bernard’s lab at The Institute in the Child Health and Human Development program.
Patient-centered financial navigation assistance helps reduce financial toxicity among cancer patients - Medical Xpress
Among cancer patients, the high financial cost of cancer care is a prevalent problem. This financial burden is also associated with potentially harmful behavioral strategies that patients might use to cope with costs, such as delaying or forgoing treatment and skipping medications. Collectively, researchers refer to this impact as financial toxicity.

Continuous glucose monitors help type 2 diabetes patients spend 5 more hours a day in healthy blood sugar range - Medical Xpress
Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) could transform diabetes management for millions of Americans with type 2 diabetes who don't take insulin, according to findings published in the New England Journal of Medicine. The clinical trial found that adults using CGMs spent approximately five additional hours each day within their target blood sugar range compared with those receiving routine care. Nearly twice as many CGM users also achieved an A1c level below 7%, a common treatment goal for people with diabetes.
Wearing headphones during surgery may reduce nausea and vomiting afterward - Medical Xpress
Patients who wore noise-canceling headphones during minimally invasive gynecological surgery were significantly less likely to experience postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), suggest findings from a randomized clinical trial presented at the Anesthesiology 2026 annual meeting.

Kefah Mokbel: Can Whole-Genome Sequencing-Based ctDNA Monitoring Help Personalize Adjuvant Treatment? - Oncodaily
“Beyond Detecting Cancer Recurrence: Can Whole-Genome Sequencing-Based ctDNA Monitoring Help Personalize Adjuvant Treatment? An exciting new study published in The Oncologist highlights the clinical potential of Signatera Genome, a whole-genome sequencing (WGS)-based, tumor-informed circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) assay, not only for detecting molecular residual disease (MRD), but also for potentially informing adjuvant treatment decisions.
