Opinion: Voting for Health in the Upcoming Election - Cancer Nursing Today
As nurses are aware, we will be voting in a national election soon, on Tuesday, November 3rd. All across the country, Americans will choose governors, members of Congress, and senators. Whether you’re a nurse who’s paying such close attention to the upcoming election that you know all the latest poll numbers, or you’re a nurse who’s been too busy to think about the election at all—or if you’re somewhere in between—there’s a key issue that should be primary for all nurses. That issue, of course, is healthcare. Nurses identify as Republicans, Democrats, and Independents and vote accordingly, but I encourage every nurse to view their vote this November as choosing which candidate or party is most likely to make healthcare better for patients and clinicians, especially nurses. Because specifics can be hard to discern amid the noise of our 24/7, politics-as-horse-race media culture, I offer two precepts below to help make voting for healthcare more intuitive for nurses. Number 1. Vote against business as usual. I use a local example to make this point.

Voting for Grammy nominees starts today - Jamaica Gleaner
Grammy season is officially on. First-round voting for the 69th Annual Grammy Awards opens today (October 12) and runs through to Thursday, October 22. This round determines all the Grammy nominees for all the categories of the awards. Following that, the next big date on the Grammy calendar will be the official nominations announcement on November 16. Albums released from August 31, 2025, through to August 28, 2026 are eligible for consideration. Although the official number of albums submitted for the Best Reggae Album category is yet to be declared, music insiders believe that this year will be particularly interesting. As we do every year, we connected with our ‘Grammy Man in the Street’ Sean ‘Contractor’ Edwards, CEO of Contractor Music Marketing, for his thoughts on who will possibly make the top five nominees. “The 69th Grammy awards has 2300 new voting members which could significantly switch the status quo of nominees in each category,” Edwards told The Gleaner.
