Approach shoes are the new fall sneaker trend you'll be seeing everywhere - Business Insider

In the past, mountaineers wore approach shoes to walk the trails leading up to their actual climb (the "approach" refers to the route between the start of the hike and the base of a cliff). Nowadays, it feels like I can't throw a rock without hitting someone dripped out in these Gore-Tex sneakers. The New York Times calls them "a shoe that looks great on everyone. " It's true there's been an uptick of this outdoorsy style all over, from around my local coffee shop to the ad campaigns of luxury fashion houses like Proenza Schouler and Loewe. While true hiking boots are too clunky for long distances, an understated, low-profile approach shoe is much easier to slip on and walk in. We've tested the trendy Salomons, but here I've rounded up comfortable alternatives with a similar gorpy flair. These pairs can be styled with your favorite barrel jeans, cargo pants, or even a maxi skirt this fall. Keen Jasper Why we love them: These have a wide toe box and a molded cork footbed similar to Birkenstocks. Skip if: You prefer foam cushioning and meaningful arch support.

‘They shouldn’t be surprised’: Nova Scotians take stand against major data centre project - Global News

A group of Nova Scotians gathered on the waterfront in Halifax on Saturday with a message for Premier Tim Houston: allowing the construction of a large data centre will be detrimental to the environment and the community. “These companies don’t have a lot of information that they’re able to give us, we don’t know what this is gonna look like, we already have wells that are drying up in the summertime. I don’t think we can afford to do this,” Megan Boudreau, one of the protest organizers, told Global News. Energy and infrastructure company, EverWind, announced on Friday $10 billion in private investment in a data centre campus at its existing Point Tupper site. The site would be leased and run by AI development company Anthropic, the creator of the AI assistant Claude. “Canadians are using Claude in growing numbers, and we want our infrastructure to be closer to the people who rely on it,” said Jacob Glick, head of Canada Public Policy with Anthropic.
