Red Wings Place Jacob Bernard-Docker On Waivers - Pro Hockey Rumors
The Red Wings have been carrying nine defensemen through the early going this season, something that’s largely unsustainable. They’ve taken a step toward reducing that surplus as Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports (Twitter link) that blueliner Jacob Bernard-Docker has been placed on waivers. The 26-year-old joined Detroit in the 2025 offseason, inking a one-year, $875K contract in the hopes that a fresh start could eventually give him a more permanent place in the lineup. Last year, that was largely the case. Bernard-Docker played in 63 games (compared to just 40 the year before between two different teams) and while he only put up five points offensively, he logged nearly 15 minutes per game of ice time while chipping in with 87 blocked shots and 66 hits. That performance was good enough for the Red Wings to sign him to a new two-year, $3.2MM deal back in March.

Oct. 14th: The Vancouver Canucks are days away from activating forward Filip Chytil (muscular shoulder strain) from the injured reserve. To activate Chytil, the Canucks needed to create roster space and made a peculiar roster move to do so.

Flyers have intriguing opportunity with former top prospect on waivers - Broad Street Hockey
The Philadelphia Flyers have got to do something to turn around their 0-5-3 start. They signed veteran free agent Michael Bunting last week and called up Jack Studnicka to replace Carl Grundstrom over the weekend. Neither of those moves are really going to move the needle in the long run, but at least Danny Briere and Keith Jones are pressing what buttons they can before slamming the “break glass in case of emergency” button. We’ll see how long that takes.

JPat: A word on Aatu Räty’s past, present, and future as Canucks place young centre on waivers - Canucks Army
JPat: A word on Aatu Räty’s past, present, and future as Canucks place young centre on waiversFormer Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin once tried to spin the return in the Bo Horvat deal as essentially three first-round picks in exchange for the club’s former captain. Allvin’s premise was that the Canucks received one actual first-round selection, plus Anthony Beauvillier, who was a late first-round pick in the 2015 Draft (28th overall), and Aatu Räty, who for a couple of years was projected to be a first-round pick, but ultimately fell to the middle of the second round (52nd overall) in the 2021 Draft. Three first-rounders it most certainly was not. But, hey, Allvin deserves some credit for creativity. However, with Beauvillier here for a grand total of 55 games over parts of two seasons and now Räty on waivers with his immediate future unknown, the Horvat deal has been somewhat diminished. Sure, the Canucks flipped the first-round pick they received from the New York Islanders and added a second to land Filip Hronek, and he has played a significant role for the hockey club and will for the foreseeable future.
