White House forms AI task force to report on technology’s risks - Yahoo

The White House has set up a new task force to examine AI's risks and opportunities with a report due within 120 days. According to The Wall Street Journal, Jay Clayton, the director of national intelligence, will lead the task force, known as the "Super Intelligence Force", effectively serving as Donald Trump's AI tsar. "The president asked that a group be put together that was going to ensure exactly what he said – (that) we stay the leaders in superintelligence, and that the interests of the American people are put first," Mr Clayton told the newspaper. The task force will work with industry to identify AI's emerging risks and opportunities, and will offer recommendations on the government's responsibilities regarding the technology. It is also set to review warnings and notifications provided to the government about breaches, hacks, jailbreaks and other security issues, and "recommend ways to improve the government's response capacity under existing authorities". "The Task Force shall act as a co-ordinating body to ensure that the US remains at the forefront of SI development while protecting the American people," the task force charter states.
