While deep in the recording process for The Downward Spiral, Trent Reznor lent some of his production talents to old friend Kevin McMahon, from the new wave band Lucky Pierre (which Reznor was briefly a member of). While Reznor is only credited as the producer on four tracks off Prick’s self-titled debut record, his fingerprints are all over it. But McMahon also can’t suppress his inner theater kid, which also gives the songs the sort of glammy flamboyance found on T. Rex records. Prick embraces the inherent theatricality of goth in a way that Nine Inch Nails never did. Opener “Communiqué” is a fuzzy blast of simple punk riffs with electronic sprinklings on top. McMahon’s vocals occasionally detour from the half-spoken verses that sound borrowed from a musical to full-throated Al Jourgensen-esque screams. The rough-around-the-edges production and focus on live instrumentation feel like a prototype for what Reznor would eventually revisit on With Teeth. But it’s the second track, “Riverhead” where Reznor’s influences fully rear their head (even though he is not actually credited as the producer).

Developed by Mike Flanagan, the eight-episode supernatural horror series follows Carrie White (Summer H. Howell), a sheltered teenager who has spent most of her life isolated by her intensely religious mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan), and her doomsday-prepper father, Ralph (Tahmoh Penikett). Courtesy of PrimeBut Carrie’s carefully controlled world starts to unravel after her father unexpectedly dies. Suddenly, she’s forced to leave the only environment she knows and enter public high school for the first time. And, well, we all know high school can be brutal enough without supernatural abilities entering the equation.

James Cameron congratulates Avengers: Endgame's box office success with bonkers image - A.V. Club
Marvel Studios’ release of Avengers: Endgame: Encore was a shrewd gambit for a few reasons: It put the studio’s most successful film back in conversation right after the juggernaut success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day; it tided die-hards over with new footage ahead of December’s Avengers: Doomsday; and, perhaps most importantly, it raked in an additional $138 million for the film, reinstating its position as the worldwide box office champion over James Cameron’s Avatar. Cameron, who certainly doesn’t spend his precious time fretting about such matters as lifetime financial grosses and being the best in the world at stuff, recently expressed his congratulations to Marvel for once again overtaking his 2009 sci-fi film. “You are one of the people,” the director wrote (per The Wrap) in a composite image from Avatar, with Iron Man at the center of a welcoming Na’vi tribe. “Congratulations to Marvel and the #1 Avengers: Endgame: Encore for bringing moviegoers to the cinemas! – Jim Cameron.”
