The best thing writer/director Chris Rock does for Misty Green is set himself to the side. We know a lot about Rock, as he’s a famed stand-up who tells us everything on his mind. Whether it’s politics, his personal life, Hollywood, or even “The Slap,” it seems we already have a pretty good idea of who Rock is. At the same time, Misty Green is the kind of film that leans into experiences we can only assume he or other people he knows have had in relation to the everyday treatment of Black people. Granted, this is also somewhat a Hollywood satire, so we’re dealing with a specific type of person – a Black actress on the “wrong side of 30,” but even with that focus, leaning away from Rock’s own persona and on this character does mean exploring other challenges. I wish the film had maybe dealt with some of its own subplots a little more cleanly, or just left them out altogether. However, between a solid cast and some of Rock’s best directorial work, Misty Green shows she still has it in her to be a winner.

You Know Rosalind Eleazar From ‘Slow Horses.’ She’ll Blow You Away in ‘Misty Green’ - Rolling Stone
ometimes an epiphany arrives in the most unexpected package. For Rosalind Eleazar, it was a pair of shades and some pumps. The British actor had a few weeks before she was set to start filming Misty Green, Chris Rock’s drama about show business and the sensitive, often self-destructive artists it chews up and spits out. So she flew to Los Angeles early and embedded herself there, popping into local haunts and walking the streets of Hollywood. Eleazar plays the title character, an actor who, once upon a time, had been on a hit TV show and won Emmys. When we meet her, however, Misty is deep in a professional lull and a personal downward spiral. Eleazar had spent limited time in L. A. before, doing promotional duties for projects. Now she wanted to take some time to really soak in the culture.

The “toxic” 1980s actor Ron Howard and Jason Bateman both couldn’t stand working with - Far Out Magazine
Credit: Far Out / YouTube Still / Colleen Sturtevant Sat 17 October 2026 19:45, UK Since he’s always wanted to have a career like Ron Howard, it’s almost fitting that Jason Bateman worked with an actor neither of them could stand, and at around the same time, too. As a child actor who eventually segued into more adult roles, admittedly after a decade in the wilderness, before diversifying into directing, it makes perfect sense that Bateman views Howard as the blueprint, since few have managed to navigate that transition as successfully as the Happy Days veteran. If anything, it must have felt like kismet when they became collaborators on Arrested Development, allowing the star to tell the narrator and executive producer to his face that he’d spent his professional life dreaming of emulating his path from an on-camera nipper to a behind-the-camera force. One of the key lessons he took from Howard, as obvious as it sounds, was not to be a dick. Bateman had his demons, and he battled them successfully, but it was watching the two-time Academy Award winner’s kind, compassionate demeanour that convinced him if he ever made it back to the big time, he’d try to be a nice guy.
