The acoustic guitar Noel Gallagher played during Oasis' 1996 MTV Unplugged performance has fetched a hefty sum of $299,376 including buyer's premium yesterday. According to a press release, it "set a world record for the highest price achieved at auction for an Oasis acoustic guitar. " (Back in 2022, Noel's red Gibson ES-355, which was broken backstage in he and his brother Liam's then final blowout fight that broke up Oasis in 2009, sold for about $405,000.)While that guitar sold without a hitch, a separate auction has been blocked by Oasis. Earlier in the week, the band filed a legal motion to block the sale of live recordings from the Nineties, which were originally set to be auctioned this weekend. More from Rolling StoneThe acoustic guitar that sold on Thursday was part of the first day of Propstore's live music auction dubbed Spring Music Memorabilia Live Auction. Though Gallagher's notable axe nabbed a high sum, it wasn't the biggest seller at Day One of the auction. That honor belongs to a notebook containing Freddie Mercury's handwritten lyrics and notes from when the Queen singer was working on his debut solo album, Mr. Bad Guy.

Directional magnetic field detection with zero-bias surface acoustic wave sensors - Nature
IntroductionSurface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors have emerged as versatile platforms for a wide range of sensing applications1,2, including magnetic field detection and electrical current measurement3,4,5,6,7. These devices operate by generating surface acoustic waves on a piezoelectric substrate using interdigital transducers (IDTs)8. The propagating acoustic waves induce periodic strain in an overlying magnetostrictive film. An external magnetic field alters the elastic properties of this film, such as its Young’s and shear modulus, through the \(\:{\Delta\:}E\)-effect and \(\:{\Delta\:}G\)-effect, respectively9. The magnetoelastic SAW interaction with these field-dependent elastic constants modulates the SAW propagation velocity in a delay line setup3,6,7,10 or frequency in a resonator setup11,12. Recent studies have demonstrated limits of detection (LOD), such as 22 pT/Hz1/213, 55 pT/Hz1/214 or 126 pT/Hz1/215 all at 10 Hz for various SAW sensor setups, highlighting the strong potential of this technology for low-frequency magnetic field sensing.
