Finally, there is a list of approximately a dozen other issues facing several NHL teams.
The Maple Leafs will be without veteran defenseman Chris Tanev for the foreseeable future. Toronto placed Tanev on injured reserve, retroactive to October 10, after he left Saturday’s win over the Colorado Avalanche with an upper-body injury following a collision with Artturi Lehkonen.

Oilers injury update: Dickinson leaves morning skate early, status in doubt vs. MammothJason Dickinson limped off the ice during the Edmonton Oilers’ morning skate on Thursday. The Oilers veteran centre has played three games so far this season, with one assist, but his minutes are still sheltered compared to a year ago. He is still recovering from an ankle injury suffered at the tail end of 2025-26. His status is up in the air for tonight’s game against the Utah Mammoth. Dickinson leaving midway through morning skate has his status for tonight up in the air. Ankles can get tweaked, and he was in discomfort leaving the ice. But that could be short-term, and he'll be fine, or he might have aggravated something again. At training camp, Dickinson suffered a setback that forced him to miss the first few Oilers games. Upon his return, he revealed on Oct. 5 that he never fully recovered over the summer. “If I’m being totally honest, I never quite got to 100 percent over the summer,” he said. “I was making jumps, but it felt like every jump I made, I would plateau for a couple of weeks.

Elliotte Friedman reveals Maple Leafs’ plans after Chris Tanev injury - Editor In Leaf
There has been plenty of talk regarding the Toronto Maple Leafs’ plans amid the mess that has become the Chris Tanev injury. But according to insider Elliotte Friedman, fans shouldn’t expect a massive move anytime soon. In the latest edition of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, the notable insider discussed the Maple Leafs' plans for dealing with the Chris Tanev situation, summing up the strategy in a single sentence. “I think their hope is play through this, this week and see where they are over the next little bit.”The statement suggests that GM John Chayka, while he’s certainly seeing what’s out there, isn’t really compelled to pull the trigger on a major move at this juncture. It seems the expectation is that the current blue line can keep things together, thereby precluding the need for a reactionary move. That’s why the next batch of games will determine if there’s a need for a move sooner rather than later. Of course, everything depends on Tanev’s health. If there’s no indication that he will be returning reasonably soon, circumstances may force Chayka’s hand to do something. Hiller calls on Maple Leafs forward to help out D with Tanev ruled week-to-week - TSN
TORONTO — Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Jim Hiller isn’t sounding the alarm on his defensive corps just yet. The Leafs announced Thursday that Chris Tanev is out week-to-week with an upper-body injury, reducing Toronto’s defensive depth. Hiller said he was comfortable with the remaining defenceman on his active roster, but he’ll need the Maple Leafs forwards to contribute too. “Tanev’s a good player; that’s well established, but we have other good players,” said Hiller after morning skate. “We just have to help them out a little bit.”Tanev was initially placed on injured reserve Monday, with the move retroactive to Saturday. The 36-year-old defenceman was hurt in Toronto’s 6-3 road win over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. Tanev skated in five shifts in the first period before leaving the game. “What I was disappointed about a little bit on the trip is I thought we hung our defencemen out to dry just a little bit as a group of forwards with some turnovers, with some tracking,” said Hiller. “I think prior to going out, I thought we really were supporting our defence, getting back hard, not giving up odd-man rushes, and then it was a little bit of the opposite on that road trip.
