Chris Evans is back, and he's ready to save the world once again. No, I'm not referring to "Avengers: Doomsday" or even a sequel to "Red One" (i.e. the Christmas-themed Evans and Dwayne Johnson Amazon team-up that definitely doesn't feel like a mass hallucination), I mean "Sacrifice. " French filmmaker Romain Gavras's jarring mix of action, comedy, and drama premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, where it was snatched up by Netflix. But it's only just made its way onto the streamer, which, when coupled with the not-so-excited response from last year's TIFF attendees, doesn't seem to bode well.
Yet, there's something to this one. Evans stars here as Mike Tyler, an insecure A-lister whose career is on the rocks. (Is there any other kind these days? Even Tom Cruise is feeling the heat post-"Digger. ") Hoping to reignite his fading stardom, Mike struts his stuff at a ritzy benefit gala in Greece, only for a pack of ecoterrorists to storm the castle. Their zealously serious leader Joan (Anya Taylor-Joy) then declares that they require three captives. What for?

James Cameron congratulates Avengers: Endgame's box office success with bonkers image - A.V. Club
Marvel Studios’ release of Avengers: Endgame: Encore was a shrewd gambit for a few reasons: It put the studio’s most successful film back in conversation right after the juggernaut success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day; it tided die-hards over with new footage ahead of December’s Avengers: Doomsday; and, perhaps most importantly, it raked in an additional $138 million for the film, reinstating its position as the worldwide box office champion over James Cameron’s Avatar. Cameron, who certainly doesn’t spend his precious time fretting about such matters as lifetime financial grosses and being the best in the world at stuff, recently expressed his congratulations to Marvel for once again overtaking his 2009 sci-fi film. “You are one of the people,” the director wrote (per The Wrap) in a composite image from Avatar, with Iron Man at the center of a welcoming Na’vi tribe. “Congratulations to Marvel and the #1 Avengers: Endgame: Encore for bringing moviegoers to the cinemas! – Jim Cameron.”
