I almost fell for an AI job scam because the usual red flags weren't there. Here's how I caught it. - Business Insider

This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Daniel Harnack, a data analytics professional. It has been edited for length and clarity. About a month ago, I was almost tricked into falling for an elaborate AI scam. A scammer stole a recruiter's LinkedIn picture, linked to her profile, and created a fake email address for her so they could send me a job listing created with the help of AI. The role was perfectly tailored to my experience, and it sounded like a dream job. Also, the pay was double the reasonable salary for that kind of role. All the person needed was my résumé to submit to the hiring manager. When, instead of taking my résumé and suggesting I apply for the role on their career site, they suggested I meet with a "career consultant" to suggest changes to my résumé, that sealed the deal in my mind that this was definitely going to be a scam where they asked for payment. This is just a reminder to everyone that AI is making these very individualized scams much easier to pull off. The usual red flags weren't thereThis was such a surprising scam because of how personalized, tailored, and realistic it was.

Good Good Golf: Business As Usual After Ad Fallout - Front Office Sports

On Aug. 21, Good Good Golf posted a promotional video for its new driver—created in partnership with Callaway—that depicted Good Good cofounder Garrett Clark shoving fellow Good Good creator, Alexis Miestowski, to the ground. It sparked online outrage almost immediately, with many users, including several high-profile golf media personalities, describing the spot as confusing, scary, and endorsing violence against women. By Aug. 27, the YouTube-native golf brand had lost its longstanding partnership with Callaway; had several major retailers pull its merchandise from shelves; and had forfeited its title sponsorships of Golf Channel’s revamped Big Break show and a November PGA Tour event. On Sept. 2, CEO Matt Kendrick stepped down. (Nahid Giga, an early Good Good investor and current board member, is serving as interim CEO.)

‘They shouldn’t be surprised’: Nova Scotians take stand against major data centre project - Global News

A group of Nova Scotians gathered on the waterfront in Halifax on Saturday with a message for Premier Tim Houston: allowing the construction of a large data centre will be detrimental to the environment and the community. “These companies don’t have a lot of information that they’re able to give us, we don’t know what this is gonna look like, we already have wells that are drying up in the summertime. I don’t think we can afford to do this,” Megan Boudreau, one of the protest organizers, told Global News. Energy and infrastructure company, EverWind, announced on Friday $10 billion in private investment in a data centre campus at its existing Point Tupper site. The site would be leased and run by AI development company Anthropic, the creator of the AI assistant Claude. “Canadians are using Claude in growing numbers, and we want our infrastructure to be closer to the people who rely on it,” said Jacob Glick, head of Canada Public Policy with Anthropic.
