LinkedIn cofounder says AI infrastructure is the 'only reason we're not in a recession' - Business Insider

Reid Hoffman says he's thankful for the data center buildout. Many Americans are bristling over the data center buildout. Reid Hoffman says he's thankful for it. The LinkedIn cofounder said so during an appearance on the "Newcomer" podcast that was released Friday. Hoffman credited the huge amount of capital behind the AI infrastructure buildout for being "the only reason we're not in a recession. "He said "most of that capital" doesn't go to the areas where data centers are being built. "Most of that's more distributed across the country," he said. "That's great. "Hoffman said that in addition to powering the AI boom, data center construction also provides work for construction workers, electricians, carpenters, real estate agents, and lawyers. "All of this capital infusion, people think, 'Oh, that's just going to the tech companies,'" he said, adding that a "massive percentage of it is going towards data center construction. "Data centers have recently emerged as a source of bipartisan fury as midterm elections approach. Both Republican and Democratic governors have recently moved to curtail or restrict construction.

Class Action in Rough Halifax Plane Landing Certified in Supreme Court - VOCM

The Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador has certified a class action on behalf of passengers on board Air Canada Flight AC 2259 which landed hard at Halifax in December of 2025 after the plane’s landing gear collapsed. The flight had taken off from St. John’s International earlier that evening, and officials at YYT later confirmed that debris was found on one of its runways after the flight took off. They wouldn’t say at the time whether the discovery was related to the incident at Halifax. The class action names Air Canada, Provincial Aerospace Ltd, St. John’s International Airport Authority and the Halifax International Airport Authority, all of whom have consented to certification. Stephen Barnes of Bob Buckingham Law says they want to understand what went wrong that night and make sure that passengers have an opportunity to be fairly compensated for what they went through. The case will examine whether the defendants met their responsibilities for aircraft safety, runway safety and emergency response, and whether any failures caused injury or loss to passengers.
