Lena Dunham's 'Girls' is making a comeback — but 1 key character is missing from the announcement - Yahoo

The Emmy-winning show is returning for a limited run at HBO. Editor, Yahoo Life UKWed, October 14, 2026 at 3:17 PM UTCAllison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Lena Dunham and Zosia Mamet in Girls. (Apatow Productions/Kobal/Shutterstock)Girls fans, unite. The popular TV series is coming back. HBO announced Tuesday that the show, created by and starring Lena Dunham, will be returning for five episodes, with Dunham, Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet reprising their roles as aspiring writer Hannah Horvath and her friends. Andrew Rannells, who played Elijah, will also be included in the limited revival, and Judd Apatow will return as executive producer. The comedy-drama, which aired from 2012 to 2017, gave a raw, unfiltered (and largely unglamorous) look at life as a 20-something in New York City. Body confidence, bad boyfriends and poor choices were key themes. The show received 29 Emmy Award nominations and won two, and was recently ranked the 13th-best TV show of the 21st century by the New York Times. HBO announced the show's return in a staged mock video call, with Dunham asking her costars if they wanted to take part.

3 days agoClaire KeenanHBO's award-winning show Girls will return to screens for a limited run ten years after the series finale aired. Lena Dunham – the show's creator, writer, and one of its stars – shared the announcement in a mock zoom call with members of the original cast Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet and Andrew Rannells. All five actors, whose careers launched off the back of Girls, will be part of the five-episode revival with production set to begin in 2027. Judd Apatow, who helped get the show green lit with HBO, will also return as executive producer. "We always said we would only return to 'Girls' if there was a specific story we were burning to tell," Dunham said in a statement. GettyGirls' stars Lena Dunham, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet and Allison Williams"I've missed these characters, but for a long time I couldn't quite picture them in the present day," she said. James Cameron congratulates Avengers: Endgame's box office success with bonkers image - A.V. Club

Marvel Studios’ release of Avengers: Endgame: Encore was a shrewd gambit for a few reasons: It put the studio’s most successful film back in conversation right after the juggernaut success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day; it tided die-hards over with new footage ahead of December’s Avengers: Doomsday; and, perhaps most importantly, it raked in an additional $138 million for the film, reinstating its position as the worldwide box office champion over James Cameron’s Avatar. Cameron, who certainly doesn’t spend his precious time fretting about such matters as lifetime financial grosses and being the best in the world at stuff, recently expressed his congratulations to Marvel for once again overtaking his 2009 sci-fi film. “You are one of the people,” the director wrote (per The Wrap) in a composite image from Avatar, with Iron Man at the center of a welcoming Na’vi tribe. “Congratulations to Marvel and the #1 Avengers: Endgame: Encore for bringing moviegoers to the cinemas! – Jim Cameron.”
