One in eight households in Canada reports experiencing some form of homelessness in their lifetime - Statistique Canada

Too many Canadians continue to be homeless, often because of several contributing factors. A Statistics Canada study released last year estimated that, in 2022, about one in eight households (12.1%) reported experiencing some form of previous homelessness in their lifetime. That rate was more than double the proportion among Indigenous households (27.4%). Forms of homelessness include hidden (those without a permanent address and/or staying temporarily with others), which was the most common form, and visible (unsheltered in public spaces not meant for habitation or emergency sheltered). Using Canadian Housing Survey (CHS) data, the study examined factors contributing to regaining and maintaining housing. The study found that, in 2022, almost half of people cited more than one factor that helped them regain and maintain housing, following their most recent sheltered or unsheltered (including streets, alleys, parks and other public places) homelessness experience. Nearly one-quarter cited three or more factors, highlighting the complexity of homelessness. Financial factors were cited most often, especially income from employment.

Three takeaways from Elon Musk's latest political donations - BBC

Billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk is once again pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into a US election - this time with the aim of helping Republicans maintain their control of Congress. Musk donated upwards of $200m (£150m) in the quarter that ended on 30 September, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings reviewed by the BBC. The fillings were released with just over two weeks until the 2026 midterm election, where many races for the House of Representatives and Senate are close and Republicans risk losing their majorities in both the House of Representatives and Senate. Musk also put significant money, $290m, and effort into helping elect President Donald Trump and other Republicans in 2024. Here is where the richest person in the world has been donating this time around, and what it might mean for his businesses. Most of the donations went to one groupThe bulk of the money donated last quarter by the world's only trillionaire, $158m, went to the Senate Leadership Fund (SLF) Pac, the filings showed. It is one of the largest publicly known single political donations in US history, and some have suggested it is the biggest ever.
