Yorkton exporters say tariff concerns are complicating business decisions - Prince Albert Daily Herald

Andrea Moss, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter, SaskToday Grain Millers Canada north of Yorkton. Andrea Moss Local Journalism Initiative Reporter SaskToday.ca Two major Yorkton agri-food processors say tariffs have not yet directly disrupted their core businesses, but ongoing trade tensions are increasing costs, complicating planning and creating concerns about future growth. Both Grain Millers Canada and TA Foods rely heavily on export markets, particularly the United States, where much of their production is sold. “Our raw ag commodities and our finished food products, so far, knock on wood, are not impacted by the tariffs in either direction,” said Grain Millers Canada president Terry Tyson. The Yorkton oat processor ships about 85 per cent of its finished products into the U. S. market, making the prospect of expanded tariffs a significant concern. “What keeps us up at night is the possibility of escalation,” Tyson said. TA Foods owner Mike Popowich said his company, which processes flax seed grown across the Prairies, has also largely avoided direct tariff impacts because, he said, Canadian flax remains covered under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement.

Israeli settlers attack European diplomats during West Bank olive harvest - Al Jazeera

Israeli settlers have attacked European diplomats, including a French mayor, near the Palestinian village of Taybeh in the occupied West Bank. The delegation was visiting Palestinian olive harvesters on Saturday when the Israeli attackers confronted the group. The attack comes a day after settlers assaulted a US journalist north of Ramallah. In Saturday’s incident, the settlers targeted Belgium’s consul general, French and Polish diplomats and Catholic representatives, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot said. “A French mayor was assaulted and a Belgian vehicle damaged,” Prevot said, linking the attack to what he called Israel’s “illegal settlement policy” and pledging to push for further European Union sanctions. French mayor Bernard Baudoux, who was assaulted, told the AFP news agency that the violence suggests that “there is a tolerance on the part of the Israeli government” towards settler violence. Al Jazeera’s Nour Odeh, reporting from Ramallah, said the settlers surrounded the diplomats’ vehicles, pelted them with stones and smashed their windows.
