A limited edition of 260 pieces for the Geneva-based, family-owned brand brings a sophisticated travel watch with a GMT and a rotating city bezel.

It seems as though Raymond Weil has been everywhere this year as the Geneva-based, family-owned independent brand celebrates its 50th anniversary. The company entered the integrated-bracelet sport watch realm in June with its A. R. T. collection, launching a lovely chronograph—The Fifty—featuring a vintage, new old stock Valjoux movement from the year the brand was born, 1976. But RW is marking another milestone this year. Today, on October 10th (also World Watch Day, btw), Raymond Weil himself would have turned 100 if he were still with us. A frequent and enthusiastic traveler, the brand is paying tribute to its founder with a limited-edition model, the Freelancer World-Traveller.

First Look: The new Raymond Weil Freelancer World-Traveller - Monochrome Watches

Founded in 1976 by Mr Raymond Weil at the height of the quartz crisis with a mission to produce quality watches at affordable prices, the brand remains family-owned and is now in the hands of the third generation. With CEO Elie Bernheim at the helm, Raymond Weil is enjoying a revival thanks to the successful neo-vintage Millesime collection. In tribute to the date, 10 October, and year his grandfather would have celebrated his 100th birthday, and in honour of the brand’s 50th anniversary, Raymond Weil is releasing a 260-piece edition of the Freelancer World-Traveller. Designed to evoke the spirit of travel and provide useful information for travellers, the Freelancer World-Traveller has three distinct levels: local time, displayed by the central hour, minute and second hands; a second time zone, indicated by a central GMT pointer hand with a red outline pointing to a static two-tone 24-hour scale surrounding the main dial; and the time around the world, shown on the rotating ring with 24 reference cities.

Raymond Weil Launch Freelancer World-Traveller GMT Worldtimer - Oracle Time

Raymond Weil has unveiled the Freelancer World-Traveller, a 260-piece limited edition marking 50 years of the Geneva brand and what would have been its founder’s 100th birthday on the 10th of October. The World-Traveller combines GMT and worldtimer functions to offer three simultaneous time displays: local time, a second time zone and, through the 24 cities arranged around the bezel, the time zones of the world. And if that wasn’t enough to hammer home the travel link, they’ve also stamped a map on the dial as well, its silver-coloured continents (Raymond Weil officially calls them champagne and perhaps they are a hint warmer than the steel bezel, but really they are just silver) contrasting against the midnight blue dial (ocean). Raymond Weil has paired GMT and worldtimer functions in the Freelancer line before – the standard Freelancer GMT Worldtimer has been around since 2022, but this is the first dial built around the founder. Raymond Weil’s personal signature sits where the brand name usually goes, and the relief map isn’t there just to dress up a worldtimer.

Israeli settlers attack European diplomats during West Bank olive harvest - Al Jazeera

Israeli settlers have attacked European diplomats, including a French mayor, near the Palestinian village of Taybeh in the occupied West Bank. The delegation was visiting Palestinian olive harvesters on Saturday when the Israeli attackers confronted the group. The attack comes a day after settlers assaulted a US journalist north of Ramallah. In Saturday’s incident, the settlers targeted Belgium’s consul general, French and Polish diplomats and Catholic representatives, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot said. “A French mayor was assaulted and a Belgian vehicle damaged,” Prevot said, linking the attack to what he called Israel’s “illegal settlement policy” and pledging to push for further European Union sanctions. French mayor Bernard Baudoux, who was assaulted, told the AFP news agency that the violence suggests that “there is a tolerance on the part of the Israeli government” towards settler violence. Al Jazeera’s Nour Odeh, reporting from Ramallah, said the settlers surrounded the diplomats’ vehicles, pelted them with stones and smashed their windows.
