15 October 2026FAO HQIn 2025, the World Food Forum (WFF) Youth Assembly's launched the Youth Recommendations on Empowering Young Women in Agrifood Systems. The recommendations were informed by consultations with over 10,000 young people from more than 100 countries. The process highlighted key structural barriers facing young women, including unequal access to education, decent work, resources (i.e. digital divide) and leadership opportunities across agrifood systems.
Building on these findings, and on the Youth recommendations for smart farming: Shaping priorities for the next generation of changemakers organized during the STI Forum 2026, the consultation “Young Women as Leaders of Agrifood Futures: Closing the Gender Gap in Technology, Innovation and STEM in Agrifood Systems” brought together young people to identify priorities for advancing gender equality and young women's empowerment in agrifood innovation.
