I've always been a people-pleaser. I got better at my job when I stopped caring about being liked. - Business Insider

The author has realized that being direct and honest leads to better collaboration. For the first seven years I worked as a speech-language pathologist, I prioritized soft politeness. I apologized before offering my opinion and focused on other people's comfort. Taking this approach felt essential to my job — a lot of the conversations at work are emotionally charged for my clients and their parents. One of the big challenges in this role is finding a way to tell the truth to a parent about how their child is struggling without breaking their heart. It's part of my job to communicate difficult informationIn the schools, I'm required to meet with every student's parent at least once a year to discuss their progress and services. As a parent of kids with disabilities, I know how scary those meetings can be, and everyone reacts differently. Some parents walk in the door ready to collaborate with teachers. Class Action in Rough Halifax Plane Landing Certified in Supreme Court - VOCM

The Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador has certified a class action on behalf of passengers on board Air Canada Flight AC 2259 which landed hard at Halifax in December of 2025 after the plane’s landing gear collapsed. The flight had taken off from St. John’s International earlier that evening, and officials at YYT later confirmed that debris was found on one of its runways after the flight took off. They wouldn’t say at the time whether the discovery was related to the incident at Halifax. The class action names Air Canada, Provincial Aerospace Ltd, St. John’s International Airport Authority and the Halifax International Airport Authority, all of whom have consented to certification. Stephen Barnes of Bob Buckingham Law says they want to understand what went wrong that night and make sure that passengers have an opportunity to be fairly compensated for what they went through. The case will examine whether the defendants met their responsibilities for aircraft safety, runway safety and emergency response, and whether any failures caused injury or loss to passengers.
