U of T president maps out 3 commitments to help Canada navigate a changing world - University of Toronto
University of Toronto President Melanie Woodin says the role of post-secondary institutions has never been more vital – and U of T, in partnership with industry and others, is leading the way. In discussions with industry and other leaders, including at an event hosted by the Toronto Region Board of Trade (TRBOT) this week, Woodin is publicly mapping out her three commitments for Canada’s largest university: preparing future-ready graduates, advancing responsible AI adoption at scale and mobilizing knowledge for societal and economic impact. Together, she says, these focused, impactful measures – many already underway – position U of T to help Canada “Meet the Moment” in the near term. In 2027, as the university marks its 200th year, it will launch a comprehensive and consultative process to shape U of T’s long-term priorities. “Universities have a responsibility not only to respond to change, but to help shape it for the betterment of our communities and society at large,” Woodin says.
