'Relentless' online anti-trans stigma damages mental health: study - ABC News & Headlines – Australian Broadcasting Corporation
An Australian study has linked more frequent exposure to anti-trans stigma with statistically higher rates of anxiety, depression, and self-harm or suicidal thoughts. In Australia, trans and gender-diverse people experience poor mental health outcomes than the general population, and this gap has widened over the past 22 years. As social media has continued to integrate itself into modern life, the study's lead author River Zwickl said they wanted to understand more about the impact anti-trans content had on a person's mental health. For the study, published in Frontiers of Public Health, the team surveyed 807 trans and gender-diverse people aged 16 and over, some of whom described the stigma they encountered online or in traditional media as "relentless", "omnipresent" and "inescapable". "We found that anti-trans content in the news and social media is close to unavoidable," said Dr Zwickl, a University of Melbourne researcher. "Over 70 per cent of people we surveyed had seen or heard anti-trans remarks online multiple times weekly in the previous month. " Dr Zwickl said, as someone who was trans, the results were not surprising.

James Cameron congratulates Avengers: Endgame's box office success with bonkers image - A.V. Club
Marvel Studios’ release of Avengers: Endgame: Encore was a shrewd gambit for a few reasons: It put the studio’s most successful film back in conversation right after the juggernaut success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day; it tided die-hards over with new footage ahead of December’s Avengers: Doomsday; and, perhaps most importantly, it raked in an additional $138 million for the film, reinstating its position as the worldwide box office champion over James Cameron’s Avatar. Cameron, who certainly doesn’t spend his precious time fretting about such matters as lifetime financial grosses and being the best in the world at stuff, recently expressed his congratulations to Marvel for once again overtaking his 2009 sci-fi film. “You are one of the people,” the director wrote (per The Wrap) in a composite image from Avatar, with Iron Man at the center of a welcoming Na’vi tribe. “Congratulations to Marvel and the #1 Avengers: Endgame: Encore for bringing moviegoers to the cinemas! – Jim Cameron.”
