In most stories about prejudice, it tends to be the conservative forces who rally against some progressive threat. Cristian Mungiu’s “Fjord” operates with a striking, deep sense of balance in asking us to consider discrimination on a wider plain. Any group can find itself falling into an extremist view, ready to reject “the other.” Mungiu sets the story in Norway with a conservative Christian family who become the persecuted. Like Mungiu’s previous work, it is an intelligent, elegantly constructed drama. You could even say it is a psychological thriller in the purest sense of the term. Its tension comes from the clash of worldviews, and how mere perceptions can set off a firestorm.

Renate Reinsve, one of the best international actors now working, and Sebastian Stan disappear in their roles as Lisbet and Mihai, who have recently moved to a rural town in Norway from Romania. Lisbet is Norwegian while Mihai is Romanian, which already raises some eyebrows subtly, since in this corner of Europe the east is still seen as backwards. They have five children, including teenagers Ella (Vanessa Ceban) and Emmanuel (Jonathan Ciprian Breazu) and an infant.

Sebastian Stan recounts failed “American Idol ”audition: ‘They line you up like they’re gonna assassinate you’ - Yahoo

Key PointsSebastian Stan auditioned for American Idol in the early 2000s with a unique song choice. He slept in Times Square in order to get a chance at a Golden Ticket. He did not advance to the next round and never reached judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Paula Abdul. Sebastian Stan once had other plans for making it to Hollywood. The Fjord star recently recalled his one-time aspiration to compete on American Idol. He and his friend camped out in Times Square waiting for their chance to snag a Golden Ticket in the early 2000s. "I wore these Gap leather pants and then we went up there," he said on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Tuesday. "And they, like, take you five at a time and they line you up like they're gonna assassinate you. And then each person steps forward and for 10 seconds, sings their song a cappella. And I sang the medley from Moulin Rouge. "Unfortunately, his Ewan McGregor impression did not impress the casting team on American Idol, so he didn't even make it to then-judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson. The Oscar nominee said he realized "very quickly" that he did not have the chops to move forward in the competition.
