For Hudson Williams, a witchy Canadian series was the perfect project after Heated Rivalry - The Globe and Mail

The quietly sizzling scene was being shot on a rainy March morning in a grand old house in Victoria, the stately home separated from the street by an expansive lawn. A main-floor living room had been transformed into a set: a dark, old-school university professor’s office. And a seduction was under way. “I would like to talk to you today about bones,” the character played by Hudson Williams, suddenly one of the hottest stars on the planet, said to the character played by Carrie-Anne Moss. In the scene, Moss’s Katherine, a professor with deep expertise in bones, is being interviewed for a podcast by Williams’s Henry Park, heir to a fishery fortune in a small coastal town. “Are you comfortable or would you rather do it on the desk,” Henry asks. “I think you mean at the desk,” Katherine responds. It might be raining outside but it is steamy on set. “Prioritize the hot, people,” showrunner Kat Sandler instructs. The beautiful melodies and high-energy tempo of Maggie’s Wake kicked off the 2026-2027 Sioux Hudson Entertainment Series season on Oct. 8 at the Sioux North High School cafetorium. “Maggie’s Wake is a high-energy folk roots band from Southwestern Ontario, blending Celtic-inspired fiddle, tin whistle and flute with the spirit of jazz, Americana, and classic country. Fronted by award-winning musicians Tara Dunphy and Lindsay Schindler, the group weaves rich harmonies, heartfelt storytelling, and irresistible rhythm into a sound that’s both timeless and fresh,” Maggie’s Wake’s website states of the group. “Their debut album, released in 2024 to critical acclaim, set the stage for sold-out theatre shows and earned them the 2025 Canadian Folk Music Award for Best New/Emerging Artist. Maggie’s Wake celebrates deep roots with a bold, new sound that connects tradition and innovation in every note,” their website adds. Dunphy and Schindler are joined by equally celebrated musicians Ken Palmer on acoustic and electric guitar and Peter Klassen on bass. The group performed traditional songs along with their own music.
