Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers due to a superficial blood clot in his calf, the team announced Thursday. Hurts was listed as a full participant in Friday's practice before the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a calf injury. He had no injury designation for Sunday's game in London. The Eagles released a statement detailing the process that led to the discovery of the blood clot. "On Thursday, October 8th, Jalen visited the training room after practice requesting treatment for his calf," the team said. "He informed the medical staff he had been cleated during the Rams game on October 4th. This was his first treatment session for the calf injury following the game, after having practiced in full both Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, Jalen received treatment, practiced in full, and was added to the practice report. "Out of an abundance of caution, an ultrasound was performed on Saturday following the team's flight to London and walkthrough. The ultrasound revealed a superficial blood clot.

Report: Eagles’ Hurts, out indefinitely with blood clot, not planned for IR - TSN

The Philadelphia Eagles are not planning to place quarterback Jalen Hurts on injured reserve, sources told ESPN, even as he remains sidelined indefinitely because of a superficial blood clot. The team, according to sources, has not even discussed the possibility of injured reserve, which would sideline Hurts for a minimum of four weeks. Hurts and the Eagles are still gathering more information and seeking additional medical opinions, with the quarterback's health the foremost consideration. They believe the blood clot is treatable, with Hurts trying to determine the best course, sources said. The ultimate decision about when Hurts returns to play will come from his medical team, and the Eagles are ready to follow his lead. There is still a chance Hurts eventually ends up on injured reserve, if that is the direction the medical information indicates. In most cases, blood clots are treated with anticoagulants, otherwise known as blood thinners. A player cannot play while on blood thinners. In general, the minimum time frame for a moderate dose of anticoagulants is six weeks, sources said.
