Kathleen Holton studies the link between diet and neurological changes, searching for strategies to use food in optimizing brain health.

US Navy Chaplain Deb Mariya had been struggling with PTSD and fibromyalgia for decades, unable to find relief despite trying every treatment she could find, from medication to acupuncture. Then a new diet changed her life, she told Business Insider. Maryia said that she had developed escalating symptoms after deploying to Kuwait in 1991's Operation Desert Storm, amid black clouds of burning oil and debris-laden sandstorms. In the more than 30 years since, persistent brain fog has prevented Maryia from thinking clearly. An autoimmune condition attacked her bones and joints, leaving her in need of hip replacement surgery, but unable to heal properly afterward, causing life-threatening complications. Then in 2024, Maryia enrolled in an experimental clinical trial for veterans. The goal: to test whether cutting out a compound common in processed foods could alleviate symptoms of a mysterious condition known as Gulf War Illness. The syndrome is a collection of neurological issues like joint problems, severe fatigue, and mood disturbances.

We live on a 'family compound' with my parents and siblings. It's made raising our daughter much easier. - Business Insider

We have our own house, but my husband and I live on the same property as my parents and siblings. There's a popular saying that it takes a village to raise a child. Class Action in Rough Halifax Plane Landing Certified in Supreme Court - VOCM

The Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador has certified a class action on behalf of passengers on board Air Canada Flight AC 2259 which landed hard at Halifax in December of 2025 after the plane’s landing gear collapsed. The flight had taken off from St. John’s International earlier that evening, and officials at YYT later confirmed that debris was found on one of its runways after the flight took off. They wouldn’t say at the time whether the discovery was related to the incident at Halifax. The class action names Air Canada, Provincial Aerospace Ltd, St. John’s International Airport Authority and the Halifax International Airport Authority, all of whom have consented to certification. Stephen Barnes of Bob Buckingham Law says they want to understand what went wrong that night and make sure that passengers have an opportunity to be fairly compensated for what they went through. The case will examine whether the defendants met their responsibilities for aircraft safety, runway safety and emergency response, and whether any failures caused injury or loss to passengers.
