At 93, Emma Maria Mazzenga still gets the jitters before a race. "On race day, I'm very tense," she said. "People ask to interview me, and I tell them: Don't come near me until I've run. "Over the last four decades, Mazzenga has won 11 world titles, 31 European championships and 115 Italian races. She currently holds the 200-metre world record in the women's over-90 category: 50.33 seconds, set in 2024, when she was 91. Now she is giving scientists a rare look at just how much of the physical decline we associate with aging may not actually be inevitable. Mazzenga ran as a university student in Padua, in northern Italy. She then stopped for three decades while she taught high school biology and raised two children, largely on her own after her husband died. In 1986, when she was 53, the president of her old university running club rounded up former athletes for the growing field of masters competitions, for those over age 35. "One by one, my friends quit," she said. "I kept going. "In this 2024 file photo, a then-90-year-old Mazzenga shows her membership card for the Italian Athletics Federation, ahead of a race in San Biagio di Callalta, Italy. It shows her birthdate: Aug. 1, 1933

Match Awards from Bayern Munich’s 6-1 stampede over RB Leipzig - Bavarian Football Works
Bayern Munich and the Allianz Arena played hosts to RB Leipzig in what turned out to be a cold horrific night for the visitors. Die Roten Bullen came with better momentum after winning their previous two fixtures, while the home side, on the other hand, came into the game on the back of two disappointing draws, making this fixture a very tricky one. However, some tactical errors from Leipzig allowed Bayern to find its rhythm and bury the Bulls within an hour’s time. This game showed that unless you have mastered the press like PSG, for example, throwing in the low block and counter attacking is the best bet against Bayern Munich. Die Roten possess too much vision, pace and finesse that can crush teams for the smallest mistakes in space management. Here are the Match Awards from this rout:Jersey Swap: Maarten VandevoordtOn a night when the opponent has conceded six goals, it is difficult to hand the jersey swap to the goalkeeper. Yet, clinical saves made by Maarten Vandevoordt kept the scoreline to a single digit. Bayern had Leipzig’s number all night and Martin Demichelis’ men could hardly do much to change the flow of the game.

Video: Mike Malott knocks out Joaquin Buckley with nasty knee to the face at UFC Edmonton - MMA Fighting
Mike Malott started slow, but eventually found his opening to deliver a highlight-reel knockout in front of his home country. Malott faced Joaquin Buckley in the main event of Saturday’s UFC Edmonton fight card in a welterweight contest. After a competitive first round, Malott threw — what appeared to be — a body kick, but his knee crashed into the face of Buckley, knocking out his mouthpiece, and knocking Buckley out cold. Check out the wild finish below. The first round was quite close with both fighters showing a lot of respect for the other’s power. As the second round began, things began to open up as Buckley marched forward with a big flurry. Malott was able to clinch Buckley up against the fence, possibly to wear down on the powerful “New Mansa.”As things separated, Malott found the opening for the knockout blow. With the win, “Proper” has now won five straight, finishing three of those opponents. In his post-fight interview with Paul Felder, Malott let it be known that while he may not steal the show at a press conference, or in an interview setting, he’s certainly capable of doing it inside the octagon anytime he competes.

Dubois Destroys Wardley, Records 2nd-Round TKO In Rematch - The Ring
After needing nearly 11 rounds to finish the job in a brutal bout and claim the WBO heavyweight title in Manchester just 161 days ago, The Ring’s No. 1 heavyweight contender took Wardley apart quickly in their rematch. Ben Davison and Rob Hodgins, Wardley’s training team, were slammed for leaving their man in for too long May 9, it was Davison who tossed in the towel to call things off this one-sided rematch. Referee Steve Gray stopped the action at 2:21 of the second round. Back in Manchester, Wardley dropped Dubois after just 16 seconds, with the very first right hand he threw. But it was a total role reversal here as Dubois dropped Wardley after 17 seconds with a pinpoint right hand of his own. It was the first time Wardley, the former white-collar boxer, had been down in his entire life. With more than 2½ minutes left on the clock, he found himself in the midst of a crisis. But while Wardley was unable to capitalize on the early breakthrough in May, there would be no let-up from Dubois (24-3, 23 KOs). With so long left in the round, it looked like the writing was on the wall as the Londoner landed with more devastating right hands.
