Bond yields are hovering near multi-year highs: What it means for your wallet - Fox Business

The yield on the 10-year Treasury hit the highest level since 2002 during Thursday's trading session as higher borrowing costs impact the economy of large and impact households. Yields on longer-dated Treasurys have risen this year amid the geopolitical uncertainty caused by the Iran war and growing federal budget deficits, tighter monetary policy and more competition in the bond market from mounting levels of corporate debt issuance due to the AI buildout. The 10-year Treasury yield rose as high as 5.34% during Thursday's trading session, the highest level since 2002, before declining later in the day and into Friday. Brian Therien, senior analyst at Edward Jones, told FOX Business that higher Treasury yields "may be a headwind by increasing borrowing costs for households and business," potentially causing interest rate-sensitive areas of the economy like housing and auto sales to slow despite a solid labor market and resilient consumer spending. US ECONOMY ADDED 29,000 JOBS IN SEPTEMBER, A SLOWER PACE THAN EXPECTED Higher Treasury yields can impact consumers through higher interest rates, though they can also boost savers and certain investments.

Class Action in Rough Halifax Plane Landing Certified in Supreme Court - VOCM

The Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador has certified a class action on behalf of passengers on board Air Canada Flight AC 2259 which landed hard at Halifax in December of 2025 after the plane’s landing gear collapsed. The flight had taken off from St. John’s International earlier that evening, and officials at YYT later confirmed that debris was found on one of its runways after the flight took off. They wouldn’t say at the time whether the discovery was related to the incident at Halifax. The class action names Air Canada, Provincial Aerospace Ltd, St. John’s International Airport Authority and the Halifax International Airport Authority, all of whom have consented to certification. Stephen Barnes of Bob Buckingham Law says they want to understand what went wrong that night and make sure that passengers have an opportunity to be fairly compensated for what they went through. The case will examine whether the defendants met their responsibilities for aircraft safety, runway safety and emergency response, and whether any failures caused injury or loss to passengers.
