‘Business as usual’: Jacobs keeps emotions in check in grudge match win over Eriksson - The Grand Slam of Curling

By Jonathan Brazeau VICTORIA — It was the most anticipated game of the Co-op Invitational since the draw schedule was set: Canada’s Team Brad Jacobs versus Sweden’s Team Oskar Eriksson. A sizeable crowd was on hand Friday night at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre regardless, cheering on hometown heroes Team Taylor Reese-Hansen, but they were just as engaged and enthralled by the grudge match of Olympic proportions happening on the adjacent sheet. Here we are now. Entertain us. It was the first game between the two sides since their fiery round-robin encounter during the Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina. Eriksson, then throwing third stones for legendary skip Niklas Edin, accused Team Jacobs third Marc Kennedy of illegally double-touching a rock. Colourful words were exchanged in the viral moment that became one of the hottest talking points of the Games, lingering on even as Jacobs went on to capture Olympic gold. With Edin stepping back and Eriksson taking the reins, he just so happened to slot into the same pool as Jacobs for the Co-op Invitational, the season’s first Grand Slam of Curling tournament. What a coincidence?

NFL could suspend Jacobs if video is released - NBC Sports

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the NFL “could step back in and create a longer suspension” for Josh Jacobs if the video showing his altercation with a woman is released. Fowler is surprisingly saying the quiet part out loud here, though this has been the general consensus for fans and analysts for a while. Jacobs is scheduled to come off the NFL’s Commissioner Exempt list on Monday. The NFL is reportedly trying to get hold of the video, and Jacobs has sued to block its release. Fowler adds that the woman’s attorney said her client has not participated in the league’s investigation due to privacy concerns. If the video stays under wraps, Jacobs could be allowed to continue playing in the NFL.

Packers’ Jacobs eligible to return next week amid probe - TSN

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Packers running back Josh Jacobs will be removed from the commissioner exempt list Monday, the league announced, making him eligible to practice and play next week. The league's investigation into Jacobs under the personal conduct policy remains ongoing, however, leaving open the possibility that he could still be suspended. When he comes off the list next week, Jacobs will have missed the first six games of the season, and those games would count toward any suspension. However, if Jacobs ends up getting suspended for more than six games, he will have to miss additional games to make up the difference. After playing the Cowboys this Sunday at Lambeau Field, the Packers will visit the Lions on Oct. 25. "Josh has dedicated the last several months to bettering himself, and he accepts responsibility for his actions," Jacobs' attorneys, Clarence F. Duchac III, David Z. Chesnoff and Richard A. Schonfeld, said in a statement. "He is excited to get back to work and on the field with his teammates. Josh is grateful for the support he is receiving from his teammates, coaches, the Packers organization, and the greatest fans in the world.

Dunstone outduels Casper in fiery showdown at Co-op Invitational - The Grand Slam of Curling

By Jonathan Brazeau VICTORIA — Sparks and fist pumps were flying when Matt Dunstone delivered his final shot against Danny Casper, scoring two points for an intense 8-7 win Thursday at the GSOC Co-op Invitational. Dunstone improved to a 2-1 record (six points) in the season’s first Grand Slam of Curling tournament at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. With four seconds left on his thinking time clock, Dunstone nailed the soft bump into the quarry to score the winning deuce that fired up the team and the crowd. "Awesome. That was a game I thought we deserved to win, for sure," Dunstone said. "A bad pick in six, and then I had a bad miss on my last in seven to let him back into it. But to come back with a big shot, fun way to end it. " As Dunstone alluded to, hits and misses highlighted the earlier stages of the match. Casper misfired a runback in the first end to put two points in Dunstone's pocket with one shot to go; however, the Winnipeg skip couldn't add a third rock to the count, tapping and rolling too far. That lost point came back to hurt. Casper chiselled out Dunstone’s shot rock in the second to score three points and take the lead as the back-and-forth chase was on.
