After being placed on NHL waivers on Wednesday, Vancouver Canucks forward Aatu Räty has cleared waivers and will report to AHL Abbotsford. Raty clearedRäty, 23, has appeared in just four of the Canucks’ eight games this season. He scored into the empty net to ice the game in his season debut against the Calgary Flames, but has since been held off the scoresheet. The Finnish centre has served as the fourth-line centre in all his games this season, and his ice time reflects that, with sub-10 minutes in three of those contests. He has the lone point, four shots on goal, two penalty minutes, and a minus-two rating, while averaging 10:10 this season. Known as a faceoff ace, Räty won 56.8% of his draws this season. The 6’2″ centreman found himself further down the depth chart now with the return of Filip Chytil tonight against the Florida Panthers. Similarly, we saw the same at Canucks training camp. Once viewed as the Canucks’ sure-fire fourth-line centre to begin the year, Räty found himself centring a line with Ty Mueller and Trey Fix-Wolansky, two forwards destined to start the season in the AHL Abbotsford.

AHL’s Wolfpack sign G Reimer to PTO - TSN
The Hartford Wolf Pack, the AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers, have signed unrestricted free agent goaltender James Reimer to a professional tryout agreement on Thursday. The Rangers are dealing with the injuries at the goaltending position. Franchise goaltender Igor Shesterkin is out for the season after suffering a knee injury on Oct. 9. Dylan Garand, 24, is currently the starter while Joonas Korpisalo remains on the injured reserve with a lower-body. 3 reasons why the Maple Leafs were smart to trade for Aatu Raty - Editor In Leaf
The Toronto Maple Leafs recently made headlines in the trade universe once again, this time acquiring Aatu Raty from the Vancouver Canucks. The deal saw forwards Brandon Buhr and Jacob Quillan head to Canucks for the 52nd overall selection in 2021. Many could admit that Raty is not a huge name on the market right now, nor one that many teams, if any, showed interest in. However, the Oulu, Finland, native brings something more to the team, which is why John Chayka acquired him. Raty provides a solid piece for roster flexibilityThe chances of the 23-year-old playing regularly in the Leafs lineup are slim. However, things happen. Unexpected injuries more often than not; just look at the John Tavares situation from last night. The move to acquire Raty could allow the Leafs to slot in another centerman, or forward in general, should an awkward injury were to take a member of the team. He could very well just stay with the Toronto Marlies in the AHL for now, until needed. After all, Raty spent a chunk of time with the Bridgeport Islanders (now Hamilton Hammers) in the New York Islanders system and the Abbotsford Canucks in Vancouver's system.

Maple Leafs trade Jacob Quillan for Aatu Räty - PPP Leafs
Today, the Maple Leafs traded Jacob Quillan and Brandon Buhr for Canucks centre Aatu Räty. Räty just cleared waivers today, so he can be sent directly to the Marlies as long as he has not played in 10 games or been on the roster for 30 days. By bundling Buhr into the deal, the Leafs solve their 50 SPCs problem. Räty is known as a very good faceoff centre, and has not been popular with new Canucks coach Manny Malhotra. Räty is 24 next month and was drafted in the second round by the Islanders in 2021. 🚨 TradeTo #LeafsAatu Raty 23 y/o F, Yr 2/2 $850K - RFATo #CanucksJacob Quillan 24 y/o F, Yr 1/1 $850K - UFA G6Brandon Buhr 24 y/o F, Yr 1/1 $975K - RFATOR adds $850K net cap hit.
