What Happened To The Cast Of The Original A Different World? - TVLine

"A Different World" was supposed to be a spin-off of "The Cosby Show," but life, and star Lisa Bonet, had other plans. It was meant to be a sitcom about Denise Huxtable's (Bonet) experience attending an HBCU and dealing with issues the family-friendly "The Cosby Show" wouldn't touch. The same year the show started, Bonet and Lenny Kravitz went to Las Vegas and got married; a year later, she was pregnant. Executive producer Bill Cosby, then perceived as a paragon of family values, insisted that Denise couldn't be a single mom. Bonet left after a single season, in one of the 15 most controversial TV exits ever, just as Debbie Allen was brought on as a new producer to make the Black college setting more accurate, and the show more ensemble-based. Spoiled Southern belle Whitley (Jasmine Guy), who had been more of an antagonist in season 1, became the new primary protagonist and mellowed throughout the remaining five seasons. "A Different World" ultimately became one of the best spinoff shows ever.

Israeli settlers attack European diplomats during West Bank olive harvest - Al Jazeera

Israeli settlers have attacked European diplomats, including a French mayor, near the Palestinian village of Taybeh in the occupied West Bank. The delegation was visiting Palestinian olive harvesters on Saturday when the Israeli attackers confronted the group. The attack comes a day after settlers assaulted a US journalist north of Ramallah. In Saturday’s incident, the settlers targeted Belgium’s consul general, French and Polish diplomats and Catholic representatives, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot said. “A French mayor was assaulted and a Belgian vehicle damaged,” Prevot said, linking the attack to what he called Israel’s “illegal settlement policy” and pledging to push for further European Union sanctions. French mayor Bernard Baudoux, who was assaulted, told the AFP news agency that the violence suggests that “there is a tolerance on the part of the Israeli government” towards settler violence. Al Jazeera’s Nour Odeh, reporting from Ramallah, said the settlers surrounded the diplomats’ vehicles, pelted them with stones and smashed their windows.
