When Aang first appeared in Avatar: The Last Airbender as a little bald boy trapped in ice for a century, the language characters used to talk about the Avatar was somewhat generic. Only the Avatar can wield all four elements. It’s their responsibility to restore and maintain peace in the world. We take Aang’s duty, and later Korra’s, at face value. We just sort of assume that’s how this world has always been. The chosen one is reincarnated, and they’re very special. Do we really need to understand more?

Then, at a dire point midway through Legend of Korra season 2 when the South Pole spirit portal was opened, plunging the water tribes into civil war, Korra is swallowed by a massive dark spirit while at sea. She loses her memory. So much of each Avatar’s journey has been about reconnecting with their past selves, using their memories, shared knowledge, and skills accumulated over thousands of years. But perhaps for the first time ever, Korra is the only one who must go all the way back to the very beginning.

The PlayStation 6’s Memory Components Alone Could Cost More Than $700

The next generation of home consoles is in constant fluctuation. Studio monopolies are caving in. Players are not on board with the all-digital future. One thing that is certain is that when Sony and Microsoft do pull the trigger, it will be monumentally expensive for players. With costs rising all over, consumer technology is among the fastest climbing expenses, with the AI boom hoovering up key computer components. According to one insider, the PlayStation 6’s memory alone will rake up more than $700 USD, pushing the full price tag over the $1,000 rim. According to Video Games Chronicle, AMD insider and forum poster “KeplerL2” believes that RAM and flash storage on Sony’s next console will cost “over $680.” It’s a startling number, a figure that once upon a time accounted for the entire package, but not a surprising one. Anyone who has had to pluck a quick SSD can attest how rapidly hardware costs have risen in the last three years. The prime mover in these mounting costs is the AI industry. These firms require monumental resources to dress a baby like a cop for TikTok videos.
