Meet the Wildland Firefighters Risking it All

Description

A Weather Channel Mini-Documentary Meet the South Dakota wildland firefighters who spend 12-hour days, six days a week together, then deploy on 14-day fire assignments out of state. A father and his two sons work the same crew, and everyone in the office volunteers on the local fire department on their days off. They talk about living in a tent city on the fire line, the death of their friend Trampus Haskvitz in the 2011 Coal Canyon fire and the stress that the work brings that can only be survived through their loving family and crew. This mini doc is part of a special Weather Channel mini-documentary series exploring the people, places and experiences behind extreme weather and natural disasters. Through immersive storytelling and firsthand accounts, the series goes beyond the forecast to reveal what it’s really like to live through, and fight, the forces of nature.
