Description

Asked whether early robotic deployment failures could cause a public relations nightmare for the entire industry, California Institute of Technology engineering professor Aaron Ames says, “Yeah, that is exactly the concern.” “I wake up every morning hoping I don't have a bunch of text messages from people saying that a robot hurt someone,” Ames told Horizons host William Brangham. According to Ames, who leads the Advanced Mechanical Bipedal Experimental Robotics Lab at Caltech, robots function through playback rather than intelligence, which creates safety risks. Horizons from PBS News, dives into the science, health, technology and environmental issues making headlines each week. Visit the PBS News website to watch this week's episode.
