Description
Alberta is facing a historic choice: stay in Canada or take another step toward potentially leaving the country. The Oct. 19 referendum is raising fundamental questions about the province’s future and its place in Canada. For some, this is about finally standing up to Ottawa and taking control of their own future. For others, it’s a dangerous gamble, one that could plunge the province into years of division and uncertainty. So should Alberta leave Canada? What would independence mean for the province? And why are so many Albertans questioning their place in Confederation? CPAC’s Marc-André Cossette speaks with three people to better understand what’s at stake: Keith Wilson, co-lead of the Alberta Transition Council and a leading voice in the movement for Alberta independence. Thomas Lukaszuk, former Alberta deputy premier and Progressive Conservative MLA, who leads the Forever Canadian movement opposing separation. Janet Brown, widely seen as the pollster people turn to when they want to understand what’s happening in Alberta.
